The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte’s are one of the rarest breeds in the United States, The blue laced red is a mahogany/red color with a blue that looks just like gray around the edge of every feather.
The Wyandotte Chicken originated in the Eastern part of the United States. It’s thought that several breeders were trying to create an attractive Silver Laced large fowl. After some attempts to standardize their individual creations, all of which were slightly different, common ground was eventually found between the breeders and a provisional standard was drawn up.
The first Silver Laced Wyandotte’s were recognized by the American Poultry Association a few years later in 1883. There are currently 8 standardized large fowl color varieties in America and 15 in bantam size recognized by the American Bantam Association.
Ours have a deeper blue than most through our breeding knowledge and control. Wikipedia shows an example of the breed, compare our birds with theirs and you will notice a distinct difference in the blue lace. Our birds are an amazing example of color and comb.
